The cold temperatures overnight may have contributed to a fire at the Jiminy Peak Ski Resort.

Hancock and Stephentown fire departments were called to Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Massachusetts just over the New York line.

The fire was centered in a chimney at the Country Inn at the ski resort complex. When firefighters arrived they saw flames shooting out of the chimney.

They were able to put the fire out quickly.

They found the warm weather may have also contributed to the cause.

"On a year like this, we had so much warm weather, you burn slow pokey fires and that helps generate creosote in the chimneys. And then you get a cold snap, you get a real hot fire going, and all that build up in the chimney starts to burn,” Hancock Fire Chief Dave Rash.

On closer inspection the chief found the fire had started to spread to the attic and roof. He says they got to it just time.
